Amusan Breaks Record in Rabat Victory

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan says she is pleased with her performance after winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday.

The world record holder claimed her first Diamond League victory of the season and set a new meeting record in the process. Amusan crossed the finish line in 12.28 seconds, matching her season’s best time.

Strong Performance in Rabat

Amusan produced a dominant display in Rabat. She finished ahead of Devynne Charlton, who came second in 12.40 seconds. Nadine Visser placed third with a time of 12.47 seconds.

The Nigerian improved on her result from the Xiamen Diamond League, where she finished second earlier this season.

Her winning time of 12.28 seconds ranks among the fastest performances of her career. It equals the season’s best she set earlier this year.

Amusan Pleased With Execution

After the race, Amusan said she executed her plan well and achieved her main goal.

“I am really pleased with the result. To be honest, I felt like I executed the race close to the best of my ability. Winning was the main objective and a Meeting Record is a fantastic bonus,” she said.

She also praised the atmosphere in Rabat and thanked the fans for their support.

“The atmosphere in Rabat is incredible and the crowd was absolutely electrifying. I have competed here several times and the support is always special,” she added.

Building Momentum for the Season

Amusan continues to show improvement as the season progresses. She entered the Diamond League campaign after winning her fourth consecutive African title.

The 28-year-old remains one of the top athletes in women’s hurdling. Her world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon, still stands as the fastest time in history.

Amusan now turns her attention to upcoming Diamond League events. She hopes to maintain her form and challenge for another Diamond League title.

The Nigerian won the Diamond League crown in 2021, 2022, and 2023. She will aim to reclaim the title this season while preparing for major competitions later in the year.
