The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) have agreed to deepen institutional collaboration aimed at sanitising and strengthening regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s broadcast industry.

The commitment was made on Friday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the Registrar-General/CEO of the CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, to the Director General of the NBC, Charles Ebuebu.

Magaji said closer cooperation between the two regulators had become necessary given their strategic roles in national security, economic development, and the enforcement of industry standards. He noted that the broadcast sector holds “tremendous potential,” but stressed that players must adhere strictly to regulations to enhance growth and align with global best practices.

He highlighted ongoing reforms at the CAC, including the deployment of artificial intelligence to streamline over 100 services offered by the Commission. Magaji also disclosed plans to establish a CAC broadcast outfit for consistent public awareness, adding that the initiative would require NBC’s guidance and approval.

The CAC boss further expressed readiness to grant the NBC an Application Programming Interface (API) that would enable seamless due diligence on prospective broadcast licence applicants.

In his response, NBC Director General Charles Ebuebu described the visit as “timely and strategic,” and commended the CAC’s reform efforts. He emphasised the need for wider public awareness to maximise the benefits of the Commission’s initiatives.

Ebuebu requested integration with the CAC’s database to support NBC’s verification processes and pledged the Commission’s readiness to collaborate fully to sanitise and enhance the operations of the broadcast industry.
