The Senate, during its plenary session on Tuesday, passed six bills for first reading, including two sponsored by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin.
The session also considered the report of the Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs on the confirmation of six nominees of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
In a similar development, the Senate approved the report of the Committee on Power, which confirmed the appointment of Malam Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa as Managing Director of the Niger-Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).

In his closing remarks, Senator Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, commended President Tinubu for appointing qualified individuals to lead the agencies, describing the appointments as a call to serve the nation.
He expressed confidence that the new appointees would work in the best interest of the country and strengthen the operations of their respective institutions.
The Senate also adopted a motion moved by Senator Emmanuel Udende representing Benue North-East on Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Grey List of countries. Lawmakers commended President Tinubu and Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies for their reforms and interventions, which contributed to the achievement.
After the plenary, Senator Barau received a delegation from the Movement for the Creation of Aba State in Abia State. The group was led by Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) and Augustin Akobundu (Abia Central) and included traditional rulers, technocrats, and politicians.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chief Theo Nkire emphasized the importance of creating Aba State, noting that its establishment would enhance development and economic growth in the region.
In response, Senator Barau assured the delegation that the Senate Committee handling state creation matters would ensure fairness and justice throughout the process.
