Nottingham Forest have announced the appointment of Sean Dyche as the club’s new manager following the departure of Nuno Espírito Santo, who was dismissed after a poor run of results in the Premier League.

The 54-year-old Englishman, known for his tactical discipline and no-nonsense style of football, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the club and is expected to take charge immediately.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Nottingham Forest said Dyche’s appointment marks “a decisive step towards stabilizing the club and securing its Premier League future.”

Dyche expressed optimism about the new challenge, saying, “I’m delighted to be joining a club with such a rich history and passionate fan base. Nottingham Forest is a special name in English football, and my goal is to build a team that reflects that pride and commitment on the pitch.”

The former Burnley and Everton boss is well-known for his defensive organization and ability to maximize performance with limited resources  traits that could prove vital for Forest, who currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, just above the relegation zone.

Sources close to the club said Dyche was chosen for his Premier League experience and track record of building resilient teams. During his nine-year tenure at Burnley, he guided the club to two promotions and several seasons of top-flight survival despite one of the smallest budgets in the league.

Forest’s chairman, Evangelos Marinakis, said the board was confident Dyche’s experience would “bring stability, structure, and determination” to the team.

“We believe Sean has the mentality and leadership needed to guide Nottingham Forest through this critical phase,” Marinakis said.

The announcement has generated mixed reactions among supporters. Some fans welcomed the move, praising Dyche’s toughness and Premier League know-how, while others expressed concerns about his pragmatic style of play.

One supporter posted on social media, “Dyche might not play fancy football, but he knows how to get results. Right now, that’s what we need.”

Another added, “We just hope it’s not another short-term fix. The club needs direction and long-term vision.”

Dyche’s first challenge will be to steady the team’s form and improve their defensive record  having conceded 28 goals in 12 league games this season. He is expected to bring in his trusted assistant, Ian Woan, and introduce a back-to-basics training regimen focused on structure and discipline.

His first match in charge will be against Crystal Palace this weekend, a fixture that could set the tone for his tenure at the City Ground.

For Dyche, this appointment represents a chance at redemption after his departure from Everton earlier this year. Analysts say his appointment is a “perfect fit” for a team that values hard work, unity, and survival instinct.

As one Premier League pundit put it, “Dyche is not a man for glamour  he’s a man for grit. That’s exactly what Nottingham Forest needs right now.”

With the club battling to secure its place in the Premier League, Dyche’s arrival is being seen as both a risk and a rescue mission. Time will tell if his trademark resilience can reignite the spark of one of English football’s most historic sides.
