Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged members of Generation Z to actively participate in politics and contest elective positions, reminding them of the constitutional age limits for various offices.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, the former lawmaker listed the eligible ages for political offices in Nigeria:

“President – 35 years

Senate – 35 years

Reps – 25 years

Governor – 35 years

House of Assembly – 25 years

Council Chairman – 30 years

Councillor – 25 years.”

He further encouraged young Nigerians to take charge of the political space, noting that many of today’s leaders were in their youth when they began their political journeys.

“Most of the people you see in power today were your age mates in 1999,” Sani wrote. “Spare some time from social media and take up the challenge. Wishing you the best.”

The post has since sparked reactions online, with many young Nigerians expressing mixed feelings — some commending his call to action, while others questioned the enabling environment for youth participation in governance.
