The Nigerian Navy says it has intercepted 364 bags of foreign parboiled rice suspected to have been smuggled into Nigeria through the country’s maritime borders.

The seizure was made by personnel of Forward Operating Base, FOB BADAGRY, during intelligence-led operations within its area of responsibility.

The consignment comprised 302 good bags and 62 damaged bags.

The Navy said the seized rice was handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, on Tuesday, August 18, at the FOB BADAGRY Jetty.

It said the operation highlights the importance of collaboration among security and enforcement agencies in tackling smuggling and other cross-border crimes.

The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to securing Nigeria’s territorial waters and maritime borders while urging members of the public and maritime stakeholders to provide credible information to security agencies to help disrupt criminal activities.
