FIFA Sacks Top Official After Infantino Criticism

FIFA has ended its working relationship with Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour after he criticized president Gianni Infantino.

Lamour left his role on August 17, 2026. He had served as FIFA’s COO for two years.

The decision comes less than three weeks after Lamour spoke against a controversial FIFA business plan.

The plan involved the creation of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). The company would have managed the commercial and ticketing rights of FIFA competitions.

Lamour called the plan “the project of one person.” He also claimed that FIFA’s administration had been “deceived” about the proposal.

The former COO also questioned Infantino’s leadership.

“A president must bring people together, unite them, and inspire them,” Lamour said. “Today, we are experiencing the opposite.”

FIFA later dropped the FFE plan after strong opposition from several football bodies.

UEFA, Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation rejected the proposal. UEFA also reportedly threatened to boycott the World Cup if FIFA moved ahead with the plan.

The dispute has also hurt Infantino’s bid for a fourth term as FIFA president.

UEFA and Concacaf have withdrawn their support for his re-election. The Scottish Football Association also ended its backing on Monday.

Scotland has now joined England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in withdrawing support for Infantino.

Despite the growing opposition, Infantino still has strong support from Africa, South America and Oceania.

FIFA thanked Lamour for his two years of service. His exit now adds more pressure on Infantino as he seeks another term as FIFA president.
