Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to sustain the peace and stability enjoyed in the state.
The governor made the commitment on Wednesday while receiving the newly appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General WM Dangana, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Gombe.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya described peace and security as the foundation of sustainable development, stressing that his administration would continue working closely with security agencies to safeguard lives and property while preserving Gombe’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states.
He noted that effective inter-agency cooperation has remained a key priority of his government, particularly as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of future elections.
“We must continue to work together and deepen our synergy in our collective responsibility of providing robust security for our people. Everything revolves around peace and security. Despite the increasing political activities, Gombe State will remain the peaceful state it has always been,” the governor said.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured the Nigerian Army of his administration’s continued support through the provision of operational logistics aimed at improving the effectiveness of security operations and boosting the morale of troops.
He also commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their sacrifices, professionalism, and commitment in combating criminality, insurgency, and other emerging security threats across the country.
The governor expressed confidence that the cordial relationship between the Gombe State Government and the Nigerian Army would be further strengthened under the leadership of Major General Dangana.
Earlier, the new General Officer Commanding, Major General WM Dangana, said his visit formed part of his familiarisation tour of military formations under the 3 Division following his recent appointment.
He explained that he visited Gombe to formally introduce himself to Governor Inuwa Yahaya after taking over command from his predecessor following the recent redeployment of senior officers in the Nigerian Army.
Major General Dangana disclosed that the 3 Division is responsible for overseeing military operations across Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Taraba states, adding that the tour would enable him to assess operational activities within the division’s area of responsibility.
He expressed satisfaction with the prevailing security situation in Gombe State, describing the visit and discussions with the governor as productive.
“I came to see the state of formations under my purview and I am particularly pleased to observe that Gombe State remains relatively peaceful and secure. We also had a warm, pleasant and fruitful discussion with His Excellency,” he said.
The GOC commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his consistent support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, describing the partnership between the state government and security agencies as a major factor behind the successes recorded in maintaining peace and security in Gombe.
“I must commend His Excellency for the support and cooperation he has consistently extended to our troops here in Gombe. It is my commitment to build on the peace and security already recorded and to further strengthen our collaboration with the state government in ensuring a safe and secure environment for all,” Major General Dangana assured.
The visit underscores the commitment of both the Gombe State Government and the Nigerian Army to deepening cooperation in addressing security challenges and sustaining the peaceful atmosphere that has made Gombe one of Nigeria’s most stable states.
