The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has presented the Aerodrome Certificate for Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
The presentation took place on April 14, 2026, at the NCAA headquarters in Abuja.
Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, described the certification as a major achievement.
He spoke through the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Ahmad Abba.
Furthermore, he said the certification reflects Nigeria’s commitment to aviation safety and compliance.

The NCAA noted that the process aligns with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
It also supports preparations for ICAO’s Continuous Monitoring Approach activities.
Officials commended FAAN for its cooperation throughout the certification process.
The process involved five phases to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining standards.
She was represented by Adebola Agunbiade at the event.
She assured stakeholders that FAAN will continue to improve operations across airports nationwide.
The certification confirms that the Enugu airport meets required safety and operational benchmarks.
It also strengthens confidence in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
