The All Progressives Congress, APC, confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will not undergo the usual screening process ahead of the party’s primaries.
Party spokesman Felix Morka said the National Working Committee reached the decision during its 188th meeting, and explained that the NWC considers Tinubu already screened based on his previous clearance before the 2022 primaries.
According to the party, the move aligns with its constitution and further cites the NWC’s powers to grant waivers in special cases.
The development also reflects strong backing within the party as many leaders said Tinubu has received endorsements from key stakeholders which include the Progressive Governors Forum and members of the National Assembly.
Support for the president has continued to grow ahead of the 2027 elections as James Faleke already purchased Tinubu’s nomination form.
Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi, who ran under the Labour Party at the time. His administration now seeks re-election amid ongoing political alignments.
The APC waives screening requirements for Tinubu 2027 move signals the party’s intent to maintain continuity.
