The National Judicial Council (NJC) has suspended three judges for one year without pay over judicial misconduct. The council also barred them from elevation for three years. The affected officers are Justice Hannatu Mohammed Kabir of Nasarawa State, Grand Kadi Mohammed Sani Salihu of Jigawa State and Justice Sobere Biambo of Rivers State.

The NJC found that Justice Kabir unlawfully detained a litigant for 58 days. It also found that Grand Kadi Salihu exceeded his authority by reopening a concluded case. Justice Biambo ordered arrests and imposed N300,000 fines on litigants without following due process. Meanwhile, the council cautioned Justice Bello Kawu of the FCT High Court for granting interim bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, despite an existing remand order from another judge.
