Gombe State University (GSU) has successfully hosted its 2nd Research Fair, reaffirming its commitment to advancing research excellence, innovation, intellectual property protection, technology transfer, and the commercialisation of research for national development.
The event, organised by the University’s Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO), brought together researchers, academics, innovators, students, and industry stakeholders to exhibit research findings, scholarly publications, innovative products, prototypes, and technologies with commercial potential.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta, led members of the University’s management to the event. Also in attendance were the Gombe State Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Habu Dahiru, the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences, deans, directors, heads of departments, academic staff, and students.
Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Coordinator of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office, Dr. Sulaiman Mohammed, said the Research Fair was designed to identify and promote research outputs with the potential for patent protection, industry collaboration, and commercialisation.
He explained that the initiative seeks to ensure innovations developed within the University create practical value for society while contributing to economic growth.
Professor Yauta commended the organisers and exhibitors for promoting a culture of research and innovation within the institution. He reiterated the University’s commitment to translating academic research into practical solutions capable of addressing societal challenges and driving sustainable development.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that Gombe State University would continue to strengthen research initiatives that encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and partnerships with industry to maximise the impact of research outputs.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Habu Dahiru, praised the University for providing a platform that strengthens collaboration between academia, government, and industry.
He encouraged researchers to focus on developing innovations with practical applications and commercial value that can contribute meaningfully to the state’s and nation’s development.
The Research Fair featured a wide range of scientific discoveries, innovative prototypes, and emerging technologies developed by researchers across various faculties and departments.
Participants also engaged in discussions on intellectual property rights, technology transfer, research commercialisation, and opportunities for collaboration between the University and industry partners.
The event provided a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and the promotion of research with commercial potential, further positioning Gombe State University as one of Nigeria’s emerging centres for innovation, scientific research, and technology-driven development.
