The Women Community in Africa Town Hall Meeting brought together women leaders, youth advocates, and delegates from across Africa. The event promoted women’s leadership, inclusion, and sustainable development. In addition, it encouraged women and young people to take active roles in shaping Africa’s future.
The town hall was held under the theme, “From Voice to Power: Advancing Women Leadership, Security and Accountability for Inclusive Peace and Governance.” During the discussions, speakers called for stronger participation of women in leadership and decision-making. They also stressed the need for greater accountability and inclusive governance. According to the speakers, societies become stronger when women have equal opportunities to lead, influence policies, and contribute to national development.
Speaking at the event, the representative of the Minister of Defence, Lieutenant Colonel Nneka Olimma, representing General Christopher Musa, said Africa’s growing youth population remains a critical factor in the continent’s security. She noted that governance gaps leave women and young people vulnerable to exploitation by criminal and extremist groups. However, she added that inclusive and well-structured systems empower young people to become drivers of stability, innovation, and national development.
She urged participants to move beyond dialogue and focus on action. According to her, the town hall should produce more than recommendations. Instead, it should lead to coordinated action, enforceable policies, stronger partnerships, and measurable improvements in security across Africa.
Meanwhile, one of the highlights of the event was the unveiling of Dr. Maimuna Salim of South Africa as the new Global Leader of the Women Community in Africa. Following the announcement, newly inducted members received their certificates and took part in the swearing-in ceremony. In recognition of their contributions, the organization also decorated honorary members for their commitment to its vision.
Finally, the event concluded with poetry recitations, a lively debate, and colourful cultural performances by students. The performances celebrated Africa’s rich cultural heritage and showcased the creativity of its young people. Overall, organizers expressed confidence that the town hall would inspire more women and youth to embrace leadership, promote community development, and strengthen Africa’s voice on the global stage.
