NEDC Supports Airports, FRCN With New Facilities

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated 130 luggage trolleys to airports across the North-East region and handed over broadcasting equipment to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure and public service delivery in the region.

The donation was made during a handover ceremony in Maiduguri, Borno State, where the Managing Director of the NEDC, Muhammad Alkali, said the intervention aligns with the commission’s mandate to rebuild the North-East after years of insurgency and instability.

According to Alkali, the trolleys will be distributed among airports in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states to improve passenger convenience and ease the movement of luggage. He noted that the intervention was based on identified operational needs within the aviation sector.

The commission also donated modern broadcast equipment to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, including transmitters, studio computers, microphones, drone cameras, lighting kits, consoles, routers, and other technical facilities aimed at improving broadcasting operations in the region.

Speaking during the presentation, officials said the equipment would help expand transmission capacity and improve access to information across communities in the North-East.

The Director-General of the FRCN, Muhammad Bulama, commended the NEDC for the support, stating that the intervention would significantly increase broadcast hours, especially through the provision of solar-powered facilities.

Also reacting, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria regional management in Maiduguri said the trolleys would improve passenger comfort and airport operations across the benefiting states.
