The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of N100 million in the case filed against him by the Department of State Services over the alleged bugging of the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, while delivering the ruling on Monday, ordered that the defendant must provide one surety in like sum as part of the bail conditions.
The court held that the surety must be a resident of either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court registry.
According to the ruling, the surety must also be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must provide evidence of salary payments for at least three months.
Justice Abdulmalik further directed that El-Rufai deposit all valid international passports with the court pending the determination of the case.
The judge also ordered the submission of a verification letter from the surety’s department as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
As part of the bail conditions, the former governor is expected to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register until the matter is concluded.
The court warned that failure to comply with any of the conditions would result in an automatic revocation of the bail.
The case relates to allegations by the DSS that El-Rufai was involved in the unlawful bugging of the phone of the National Security Adviser.
