Former Plateau State Governor and Senator, Simon Lalong, has told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that deploying more security forces alone will not end the persistent killings in Plateau State.
He made this known during a meeting in Jos after the recent Palm Sunday attacks. The attacks claimed several lives and increased tension across the state.
According to Lalong, security presence is important. However, it cannot address the root causes of the violence.
He stressed the need for a broader approach. In addition, he called for dialogue, community engagement, and efforts to tackle the issues driving the crisis.
Meanwhile, Lalong requested a closed door meeting between the President and Plateau elders at the Presidential Villa. He said the session would allow stakeholders to speak openly and suggest practical solutions.
The call comes as concerns grow over repeated attacks in the state. Many observers have also urged the federal government to adopt more inclusive and lasting security measures.
Ultimately, Lalong said lasting peace requires cooperation, understanding, and policies that go beyond military action.
