The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), a directorate of the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, has commissioned an integrated Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling facility at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The project marks another milestone in MDGIF’s drive to deepen domestic gas utilisation and catalyse investment across Nigeria’s gas value chain.

Speaking at the commissioning, MDGIF Executive Director, Oluwole Adama, described the facility as a practical step toward Nigeria’s gas-based energy transition.
According to him, the initiative targets cleaner mobility, wider gas infrastructure access, and measurable socio-economic benefits for host communities.
OAU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, commended the project, noting its value for research, innovation, and practical learning.
Group Managing Director and CEO of Femadec Energy, Engineer Akinnola Fola, reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to safe and scalable CNG infrastructure.
The OAU station is part of a 20-site collaboration involving MDGIF, Femadec Energy, and the Presidential CNG Initiative.
The project will provide CNG buses and vehicle conversion services for students, staff, and surrounding communities.
