The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has praised security agencies for their efforts to maintain peace in the state. He also asked them to increase surveillance ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.

The Governor gave the directive on Wednesday during a State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Damaturu. He was represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana. The deputy thanked security officers for protecting lives and property across the state.

He said the meeting was held to review the security situation and ensure residents can observe the 30-day Ramadan fast in peace.

According to him, Ramadan comes with many religious activities. These include preaching, seminars, congregational prayers, iftar gatherings, and night prayers. He said these events require strong security to keep people safe.

The Governor warned that some criminals may try to take advantage of the period to cause trouble. He urged security agencies to stay alert and proactive.

The council also commended traditional rulers and community leaders for helping to maintain peace and resolve conflicts in their communities.

He advised Islamic preachers to follow the guidelines set by the Da’awa committee. He said this will promote unity and peaceful coexistence in line with Islamic teachings.

After the meeting, the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), spoke to journalists. He asked residents to support security agencies by sharing useful information.

He also expressed concern about illegal mining in the Gulani Local Government Area. He assured the public that security agencies are taking action to address the issue.

Security agencies present at the meeting included representatives of Operation Lafiya Dole, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The state government said it remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring a safe Ramadan for all residents.
