During the annual Marian pilgrimage in Otan Ayegbaju, Rt. Rev. John Oyetola, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, delivered a strong charge to the faithful regarding the upcoming August 8, 2026, Osun State governorship election and youth development.

The Bishop emphasized that participating in the democratic process is not just a right, but a spiritual duty.

He stated that eligible citizens who fail to vote are “committing a sin,” as they contribute to the nation’s decline by remaining passive.

Furthermore he warned that selling a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is a “greater sin” and urged voters to follow their conscience regardless of financial inducements.

Oyetola advised citizens to do their part and leave the integrity of the counting process to God.

Addressing the economic challenges facing young people, the Bishop advocated for self reliance through vocational training.

He directed priests to encourage youths to enroll in the diocese’s vocational school at subsidized rates. Urging young people specifically women to acquire skills to avoid the indignity of begging or being “at the mercy of any man.”

As the Lenten season approaches, the cleric implored Nigerians to prioritize acts of mercy and support for the less privileged.

The event drew significant political figures, including representatives for Governor Ademola Adeleke and APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji, alongside former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi.
