Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has formally aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) after being named to the party’s 73-member Central Coordination Committee for the upcoming 2026 National Convention.
Musa’s inclusion on the committee where he is listed as member No. 71 is widely seen as his entry into active partisan politics, marking a shift from his military and government service into political engagement. Musa retired from the Nigerian Army in October 2025 after serving as Chief of Defence Staff and he was confirmed as Minister of Defence in December 2025, taking on a role at the heart of national security under President Bola Tinubu.
The Central Coordination Committee is tasked with planning and overseeing the APC’s national convention, a key event ahead of future internal elections and party strategy.
It includes governors, party leaders, national lawmakers, former party chairmen, and ministers a lineup reflecting broad political influence.
Musa’s move signals a growing trend of public officials transitioning into direct roles within Nigeria’s major political parties as the country gears up for future elections and political realignment.
