US President Donald Trump will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at a NATO summit in Turkey on Wednesday.
The meeting comes as tensions rise over the war in Ukraine and growing friction within the Western alliance.
Trump will arrive in Turkey on Tuesday and also talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the summit.
A White House spokesperson, Anna Kelly, confirmed the schedule. She said Trump will focus discussions with Zelensky on ending the war in Ukraine.
A US official said Trump will discuss ways to end the war with Zelensky. The official spoke on condition of anonymity during a press call.
Trump had promised during his campaign to end the war within 24 hours of returning to office. However, he has since expressed frustration over the lack of progress.
At the same time, US-led peace efforts between Kyiv and Moscow remain stalled. Washington has also shifted attention to other global crises, including tensions involving Iran.
Ukraine has increased long-range strikes inside Russian territory. These attacks include drone and missile operations targeting deep infrastructure.
A US official said neither Russia nor Ukraine has made significant battlefield gains. The official described the conflict as a continuing military deadlock.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Trump on Saturday.
Despite diplomatic contacts, Moscow has rejected proposals for a halt to long-range strikes. It continues to insist on territorial demands in Ukraine.
The summit takes place amid rising tension between the United States and NATO allies. Relations have remained uneasy during Trump’s presidency.
