Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal worth up to £50 million to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea, according to multiple British media outlets.
Neither Manchester United nor Chelsea has officially confirmed the transfer. However, reports suggest the deal is close to completion, with only the final formalities remaining.
Clubs agree transfer fee
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have agreed a £50 million deal for the Brazilian midfielder.
The report says Santos is expected to complete the remaining paperwork before the transfer becomes official.
Meanwhile, The Guardian reported that United agreed a £48 million deal after intensifying their pursuit of the 22-year-old.
The Athletic, as cited by TNT Sports, claimed the agreement is worth £48 million plus £2 million in performance-related add-ons. The report also said Santos has already agreed personal terms and received permission to undergo a medical.
Similarly, The Times reported that Chelsea negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Five-year contract expected
talkSPORT also reported that the transfer includes £48 million upfront and £2 million in add-ons.
The broadcaster added that Santos is expected to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford after completing his medical.
Despite the widespread reports, both clubs have remained silent. Chelsea have not announced the midfielder’s departure, while Manchester United have yet to confirm his arrival.
Santos set for new challenge
Santos joined Chelsea from CR Vasco da Gama in 2023.
He later spent loan spells with Nottingham Forest and RC Strasbourg Alsace before returning to Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian midfielder impressed during his time at Strasbourg under coach Liam Rosenior. His performances earned him a place in Chelsea’s squad ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Although he competed with Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández for a starting role, Santos still made 43 appearances in all competitions last season and scored three goals.
If the transfer goes through, Manchester United will strengthen their midfield ahead of the new campaign. The move, however, still depends on a successful medical and the completion of the remaining paperwork.
