The Nenadi Usman-led Labour Party (LP) will hold a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on June 11 to ratify the results of its recent primary elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Ken Asogwa the party’s National Publicity Secretary, issued the statement. He said NEC members will review and approve the results of the primaries held nationwide on May 30 and will endorse the list of successful candidates before the party submits their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party said it is acting in line with the Electoral Act and its constitution and according to Asogwa, the NEC will formally confirm candidates who emerged from the primary elections.
The approval will clear the way for the party to submit their names to INEC. Party leaders consider the process a key step in preparing for future elections.
The party also announced plans to issue Certificates of Return to successful candidates as NEC serves as the party’s highest decision-making body between conventions.
Asogwa said the process will begin immediately after the NEC ratifies the primary results and certificates will go to candidates for president, governor, senate, and house of representative’s seats which will officially confirm their status as party nominees.
The June 11 gathering will mark the party’s first NEC meeting since its recent convention. Party officials described the meeting as important to their political strategy.
They believe the session will strengthen internal coordination and support mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
In addition, party leaders expect the meeting to help align members behind key decisions.
The planned meeting comes days after the faction announced Chibuzo Okereke as its presidential candidate.
Party members selected Okereke during the nationwide primaries held on May 30
