One of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirants in Gombe State, Hon. Monica Yahaya Kaltho, has withdrawn from the court case challenging the party’s governorship primary and declared her full support for the PDP governorship candidate, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, ahead of the 2027 election.

Kaltho was among the aspirants who initially expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of the party’s governorship primary, where Professor Pantami emerged as the sole candidate presented for affirmation. However, she has now distanced herself from the legal action filed by some aggrieved aspirants contesting the process.

Announcing her decision, Kaltho said she withdrew from the suit after extensive consultations and in response to the appeal made by the leader of the PDP in Gombe State, former Governor Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.

According to her, Dankwambo’s intervention was guided by the need to preserve unity within the party and position the PDP for success in the 2027 governorship election.

She described the former governor as a respected father figure and leader whose advice she holds in high regard, noting that she chose to put the party’s collective interest above her personal political ambition.

“The unity of our great party and the development of Gombe State are more important than individual aspirations,” she said, urging party members to remain focused on reclaiming power in the state.

Kaltho also pledged her unwavering support for Professor Pantami, assuring the party’s governorship candidate of her commitment to work tirelessly toward securing victory for the PDP in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

She called on party members and supporters across the state to close ranks, set aside differences, and work together to strengthen the PDP ahead of the polls.

Responding to the development, Professor Pantami commended Kaltho for what he described as an act of political maturity, patriotism, and statesmanship.

He thanked her for prioritising party unity over personal interest and said her decision demonstrated a strong commitment to the ideals of the PDP.

Pantami assured Kaltho that she remains a valuable stakeholder in the party and would continue to play an important role in its activities and preparations for the 2027 elections.

He also reiterated his commitment to building an inclusive party where every member would have a sense of belonging.

“As we move forward, everyone will be carried along in our collective effort to build a stronger PDP and deliver better governance for the people of Gombe State,” Pantami said.

In a further demonstration of appreciation, the PDP governorship candidate paid a personal visit to Kaltho at her residence, where he thanked her for withdrawing from the court case and embracing reconciliation.

Pantami described her decision as a significant sacrifice made in the interest of the party and the people of Gombe State, expressing optimism that the gesture would further strengthen unity within the PDP as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship election.

The development is expected to ease tensions within the Gombe PDP following disagreements over the party’s governorship primary, with political observers viewing Kaltho’s withdrawal from the legal challenge as a boost to ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at presenting a united front ahead of the next electoral cycle.
