The Federal Government has assured students, parents and guardians of adequate security as all Federal Unity Colleges across the country prepare to reopen for academic activities on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Friday, said necessary arrangements had been put in place to ensure a safe, peaceful and seamless commencement of the new academic session.
The Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remained a priority of the Federal Government.
Alausa disclosed that relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption arrangements and would maintain heightened vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.
According to the minister, the coordinated security measures are aimed at protecting students, teachers, non-teaching staff and other members of the school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.
He therefore urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and continue preparations for their children and wards to return to school on Monday.
The minister also directed the management of Federal Unity Colleges to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption.
FG Calls for Stakeholder Cooperation
Alausa called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work together to maintain peaceful, safe and supportive learning environments.
He stressed that the protection and wellbeing of students was a shared responsibility requiring cooperation among all stakeholders.
The ministry said it would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to guarantee the smooth and safe resumption of academic activities across the colleges.
The government’s assurance comes amid concerns over the security and operational situation surrounding some Federal Unity Colleges.
The ministry said its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ministry, through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, urged students, parents, guardians, teachers and members of the public to remain confident in the arrangements put in place for the new academic session.
With the nationwide reopening scheduled for Monday, September 14, the Federal Government said it would continue to work with security agencies and education authorities to safeguard schools and ensure that academic activities proceed without disruption.
