One year after the death of renowned businessman Aminu Dantata, claims about the size of his estate have sparked intense debate on social media.

Dantata died on June 28, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, and family members laid him to rest in Medina.

During his lifetime, he built a business empire that stretched across petroleum, real estate, construction, and banking.

He also held a significant stake in Jaiz Bank and shared family ties with Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

Beyond business, Dantata earned respect for his philanthropy. He donated millions of naira to education, healthcare, and humanitarian causes. In 2024, he gave ₦1.5 billion to support victims of flooding in Borno State.

Recently, social media posts claimed that the late businessman left behind ₦61 trillion in cash, 800 petrol stations, 820 properties, and 10 private jets.

The claims attracted thousands of reactions online. Some users praised Dantata’s business achievements and celebrated his legacy. Others questioned the figures and asked for evidence to support them.

Critics pointed out that Dantata’s family has not released any details about the value or composition of his estate. They also noted that international wealth rankings, including Forbes, do not support the numbers circulating online.

The discussion has renewed interest in Dantata’s personal life. Many Nigerians remember him for his modest lifestyle despite his enormous wealth. He had four wives, more than 45 children, and a large extended family.

While the debate continues, many observers argue that Dantata’s greatest legacy lies in his contributions to business, philanthropy, and national development rather than in unverified estimates of his fortune.

For now, questions remain over the true value of his estate as Nigerians continue to separate fact from speculation.
