The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a strong warning to cyber cafés, recruitment agents, and other intermediaries allegedly extorting unsuspecting applicants seeking to enlist into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), declaring that the recruitment process is entirely free.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission said it had received disturbing reports that some cyber cafés and middlemen are demanding illegal fees—reportedly ranging from ₦15,000 and above—from applicants under the false claim that the money is shared with the PSC and other government agencies involved in the recruitment exercise.

The PSC categorically denied any involvement in such practices, stressing that no payment is required at any stage of the Nigeria Police Force recruitment process.

“The Commission wishes to state clearly and unequivocally that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is absolutely free. No applicant is required to pay a dime for application, screening, documentation, or enlistment,” the statement said.

The Commission described the activities of the extortionists as fraudulent, exploitative, and capable of undermining public confidence in the recruitment process. It warned that anyone found demanding or collecting money from applicants under any guise would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

To avoid falling victim to fraudsters, the PSC advised prospective applicants to personally submit their applications through the official recruitment portal:

According to the Commission, applicants do not require the services of cyber cafés, agents, or third-party handlers to complete their applications, as the process is designed to be simple, transparent, and accessible.

The PSC further urged members of the public and victims of extortion to promptly report any illegal demands to the nearest police station or directly to the Commission via 07054992071 (SMS/WhatsApp only), assuring that all reports will be treated with urgency and confidentiality.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, merit-based, and corruption-free recruitment process, adding that strict monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to identify and deal decisively with individuals attempting to sabotage the exercise.

The warning comes amid ongoing nationwide recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force, a process the PSC says must reflect integrity, fairness, and equal opportunity for all qualified Nigerians.

The Commission called on applicants to remain vigilant, resist all forms of inducement, and cooperate with authorities to expose those exploiting young Nigerians in search of employment.
