The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO), has joined other key stakeholders to ease traffic congestion along the Abuja–Lokoja Federal Highway as part of efforts to ensure safe and smooth movement during the Yuletide season.

The intervention was carried out under Operation Eagle Eye, NEMA’s annual initiative designed to support traffic management and enhance road safety during periods of heightened human and vehicular movement, particularly during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Officials of the Abuja Operations Office collaborated with sister agencies to carry out on-the-spot traffic control, manage congestion, and facilitate the free flow of vehicles along critical sections of the highway.

The Abuja–Lokoja corridor, a major transit route linking the Federal Capital Territory to several southern and north-central states, typically experiences heavy traffic during the festive period due to increased travel by commuters, traders, and holidaymakers. NEMA’s presence helped decongest traffic bottlenecks, promptly address emerging incidents, and provide safety guidance to motorists.

Operation Eagle Eye complements the efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security and emergency response agencies through personnel deployment, coordination support, and strengthened rapid response capabilities during peak travel periods.

NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to disaster risk reduction, accident prevention, and the protection of lives and property, while assuring the public of sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders throughout the festive season to ensure safe travel and timely emergency response along major highways.
