NASENI Boss Urges Homegrown Innovation at Genius Creators Summit

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has called for greater investment in homegrown innovation to drive Africa’s creative and technological advancement.

Speaking at the Genius Creators Summit themed “AI and the Future of Content in Africa,” Halilu said Africa’s next creative revolution would be driven by innovation, not imitation.

He stressed that originality and indigenous creativity were key to ensuring Africa takes ownership of its digital future in the age of artificial intelligence.

“Africa’s future belongs to those who create it,” he said. “Let’s make our continent the home of original ideas, not imported ones.”

Halilu explained that NASENI is working to build platforms and partnerships that enable young Africans to create, innovate, and tell their stories through technology.

He reaffirmed NASENI’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of innovators and creators capable of reshaping Africa’s global narrative through technology and design thinking.

“We are investing in people and platforms that empower creators to see technology not just as a tool, but as a canvas for innovation,” he added.

The Genius Creators Summit brought together policymakers, creators, and tech experts to discuss the intersection of artificial intelligence, content creation, and Africa’s creative economy.
