The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Dankwara Mohammed as a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
Mohammed replaces DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement issued on Friday by the PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission also announced the promotion of Commissioner of Police Abibo Deinma Reuben to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Additionally, eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to substantive Commissioners of Police (CPs). The newly promoted Commissioners include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu (Finance and Administration, Taraba State), Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
The Commission further approved the promotion of 13 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 44 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners, and 412 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents. Several Deputy Superintendents were also confirmed as substantive Superintendents of Police.
PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to demonstrate renewed commitment to national service. He noted that each promotion carries greater responsibility and expectations.
The promotions come amid ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership and morale within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) through merit-based advancement and regional representation at the top command levels.
