Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed accusations of genocide and deliberate starvation in Gaza, insisting that Israel’s military operations are targeted at Hamas, not civilians.

Addressing world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Thursday, Netanyahu defended his country’s actions in the ongoing conflict, stressing that Israel has a right and obligation to defend itself.

“Israel does not commit genocide. Israel does not starve civilians. Our war is against Hamas terrorists who hide behind innocent people,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister argued that humanitarian aid continues to flow into Gaza, coordinated with international agencies, while accusing Hamas of diverting supplies for military purposes.

Netanyahu also criticized countries and institutions that have recognized a Palestinian state in recent months, claiming such moves “reward terrorism” and undermine prospects for peace.

“Those who rush to reward Hamas with statehood are not advancing peace, they are fueling more violence,” he added.

The Israeli leader reiterated calls for global solidarity against Hamas, likening the group to ISIS and Al-Qaeda. He maintained that Israel would continue its military campaign until Hamas’ military capabilities are dismantled.

His remarks come amid mounting international criticism and growing protests over civilian deaths and worsening humanitarian conditions in Gaza. Several UN member states and rights groups have accused Israel of using excessive force and blocking aid deliveries.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, while not directly addressing Netanyahu’s comments, has repeatedly urged both sides to commit to an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian corridors, stressing that “the cost of inaction is measured in human lives.”

As the conflict continues, Netanyahu’s defiant UN address underscores Israel’s unwillingness to bow to international pressure while reinforcing its demand for Hamas’ total disarmament as a precondition for peace.
