The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Mariya Mahmud, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will retain power in Nigeria beyond 2031, urging youths and women to strengthen the party’s grassroots support ahead of future elections.
Mahmud made the statement on Monday in Kano during the launch of the City Boy Movement (CBM), a political mobilisation platform established to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration.
“There is no vacancy in the Villa till 2031,” Mahmud told supporters at the event, calling on young people and women to take a more active role in the APC’s political activities.
The minister said young Nigerians have a critical role to play in the country’s political development, noting that youths constitute a significant proportion of the population.
She argued that political movements could not achieve lasting success without the active participation of young people, adding that the CBM would help bridge the gap between youths, women and the government at the grassroots.
Mahmud also commended the movement for promoting women’s participation, saying their involvement would be important to the APC’s electoral fortunes.
She highlighted projects and reforms in Abuja as part of the Tinubu administration’s achievements and also mentioned the student loan programme administered by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND.
The minister urged CBM members to take the administration’s message to communities across the country and allow voters to assess the government’s policies and projects at the polls.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the City Boy Movement has set a target of 10 million members nationwide.
The movement’s Director-General, Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, said achieving the target would require the organisation to build a strong grassroots structure across the country.
Shoga said the movement must move beyond retreats, meetings and town halls by taking its activities directly into communities, markets, schools and universities.
“Our objective is 10 million members. If we are able to have 10 million members, we can decide the future of this country,” he said.
He urged members to promote President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda while also using the movement to prepare young Nigerians for future leadership.
