Nigerian Army troops have discovered and detonated two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along Pulka-Firgi Road in Borno State. The operation prevented a potential threat to soldiers and civilian road users.
According to a report by security publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred in Gwoza Local Government Area. Security sources said troops discovered the devices at about 9:30 a.m. on October 21.
The soldiers belong to the 192 Battalion (Motorised), operating under the 26 Task Force Brigade. They were deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Pulka when they found the explosives.
Following the discovery, the troops deployed an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to handle the threat. The specialists then detonated both devices safely at the discovery site.
The report attributed the planting of the explosives to suspected terrorists. However, it did not identify the individuals responsible or report any arrests linked to the incident.
The discovery highlights the continuing danger posed by improvised explosive devices across parts of Nigeria’s North-East. Such explosives can target military personnel, damage vehicles and endanger civilians travelling on important roads.
Meanwhile, troops continue efforts to detect and neutralise explosive threats along key routes. These operations are important for protecting road users and supporting military movements in areas affected by insurgency.
Overall, the successful disposal of the two devices removed an immediate reported threat along the Pulka-Firgi Road. Nevertheless, the incident underscores the need for continued vigilance and route-clearance operations in Borno State.
