The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced new measures to strengthen party discipline, improve accountability, and promote unity among its members.
The decision came after the party’s National Executive Committee meeting, where leaders discussed ways to build a stronger political organization ahead of future activities and elections.
The NDC said it wants to operate as a lasting institution rather than a platform built around individual interests. To achieve this goal, the party declared that elected officials on its platform must work closely with party structures when making major decisions on policies, programs, and appointments.
As part of the reforms, the party approved the creation of a Code of Conduct Committee. The committee, led by the National Legal Adviser, will develop rules and guidelines for party officials and candidates. The move aims to promote discipline, transparency, and responsible leadership within the party.
The NDC also inaugurated a National Reconciliation Committee to address disagreements and rebuild relationships among aggrieved members. Party leaders believe the committee will help strengthen unity and improve cooperation across all levels of the organization.
In addition, the party directed all affiliated groups and organizations to operate under its supervision. According to the leadership, this step will ensure better coordination and prevent parallel structures within the party.
On financial matters, the NDC pledged to enforce strict accountability. The party said officers and candidates must fully disclose campaign funds and financial contributions through approved party channels. It added that all party resources must be used only for official party activities.
The NDC said the new measures will help create a stronger, more transparent, and more united political institution focused on serving both its members and the national interest.
