Former Gombe State Governor and Senator representing Gombe Central, Muhammad Danjuma Goje, says he is still consulting on his political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Goje made the disclosure on Saturday while addressing a large gathering of supporters at his residence in Gombe.

Political leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly been lobbying the senator to join their respective parties following his failure to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 Gombe Central Senatorial election.

However, Goje dismissed reports that he had defected from the APC, saying he remained a member of the ruling party.

“I have not defected to any political party. I am still a member of the APC. But I will soon make known my next political move,” he said.

He urged his supporters to remain loyal to the party and return to their respective bases while awaiting further communication on his political decision.

Reflecting on his political career spanning nearly 45 years, Goje said he had contested elections eight times since the Second Republic and won all the elections he contested.

He served as a member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, two-term governor of Gombe State and four-term senator representing Gombe Central. He also served as a minister between 1999 and 2001.

Goje said he initially announced his retirement from politics in 2019 and did not intend to contest the 2023 election but later returned to the race following pressure from his supporters.

He also assured supporters that his empowerment programmes would continue regardless of whether he remains in the Senate.

“I want to assure you that my empowerment programmes whether I am in the Senate or not,” he said.

Goje has represented Gombe Central Senatorial District since 2011, following his two terms as governor of the state.

His bid for a fifth term in the Senate suffered a setback after he failed to secure the APC ticket during the party’s direct primary election.

The Gombe State APC House of Representatives and Senate Primary Elections Committee subsequently declared DCP Mohammed Ahmed (Rtd) as the party’s candidate for the Gombe Central Senatorial District seat.

With the 2027 elections approaching, Goje’s next political move is being closely watched amid reported overtures from opposition parties.
