Building Linked to Adelabu Family Abduction Demolished

The Oyo State Government has demolished a building allegedly used as a hideout by kidnappers who abducted the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons in Ibadan. The action came less than 48 hours after security operatives successfully rescued the victims from captivity.

The demolished property, a three-bedroom bungalow located in the Lako Community along Aiyegun–Anaye Road in Ibadan, was identified by investigators as one of the locations where the victims were held during their ordeal. The demolition exercise was carried out by officials of the Oyo State Government in collaboration with security agencies as part of efforts to discourage criminal activities and dismantle infrastructure linked to kidnapping operations.

According to government officials, the decision underscores the administration’s zero-tolerance stance against kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes. Authorities said any property found to be aiding criminal operations would face similar sanctions under existing laws.

The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted on June 3, 2026, at Elewura, Ring Road area of Ibadan while she was taking the children to school. The incident triggered widespread concern across Oyo State and beyond due to the family’s connection to the former minister and the growing insecurity in parts of the state.

Security agencies subsequently launched an intensive operation to locate the victims and track down the kidnappers. The rescue mission resulted in the killing of two suspected kidnappers, while several others were arrested. Firearms and other incriminating materials were also reportedly recovered during the operation.

The successful rescue has been hailed as a major breakthrough by law enforcement authorities, who described the operation as intelligence-driven and coordinated across multiple security units. Investigators are continuing efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate believed to have escaped during the raid.

The abduction occurred amid heightened security concerns in Oyo State, where several kidnapping incidents have been recorded in recent months. The state has also been grappling with the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in parts of Oriire Local Government Area, prompting calls for stronger security measures and improved intelligence gathering.

Observers say the demolition of the kidnappers’ hideout sends a strong message to criminal groups operating in the state and reflects the government’s determination to support security agencies in the fight against kidnapping and violent crime.

As investigations continue, residents have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help prevent future crimes and improve public safety across the state.
