The Federal Government is opening a massive trade corridor for young African entrepreneurs. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, announced the official rollout of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Startup Acceleration Programme during the Biashara Africa forum. This initiative marks a strategic partnership between the AfCFTA Secretariat and the Korea Africa Foundation.
The program directly targets 30 high-potential African startups specializing in fintech, e-commerce, and agritech. Organizers design the intensive curriculum to help these companies scale across continental borders. Furthermore, the framework provides a direct pathway for local innovators to penetrate global markets, with a specific focus on South Korea.
This move comes at a critical time for the continent. As the African Continental Free Trade Area shifts from political negotiations into active enforcement, local innovators face massive hurdles. Entrepreneurs routinely struggle with fragmented cross-border payments, complex regulatory bottlenecks, and inadequate logistics networks.
Government officials believe this accelerator provides the exact structural support needed to turn local tech solutions into global brands. By offering targeted mentorship, international networking opportunities, and access to foreign venture capital, the initiative aims to de-risk cross-border expansion.
