A young Nigerian photographer, Saidu Abdulrahaman, has officially announced plans to attempt a new Guinness World Record, GWR, for the highest number of selfie photographs taken within three minutes.

The Abuja-based creative aims to surpass the current record of 184 selfies, which is held by Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. According to Guinness World Records, Kumar achieved the feat during an event in Mumbai, India, in February 2023.

Saidu revealed that his attempt has already received approval from Guinness World Records, clearing the way for the official challenge scheduled to take place on October 1, 2026, in Abuja.

Attempt to Break 200 Selfies in Three Minutes

According to promotional materials released ahead of the event, Saidu plans to take more than 200 selfies within the three-minute time limit.

The challenge category is officially titled “Most self-portrait photographs (selfies) taken in three minutes,” one of Guinness World Records’ recognized photography-related achievements.

Speaking about the attempt, Saidu said the project is part of a broader effort to showcase the creativity, talent, and determination of young Nigerians on the global stage.

He explained that breaking a record currently held by an internationally recognized actor would represent a major achievement not only for him personally but also for Nigeria’s growing creative community.

Event Expected to Draw Public Attention

The record attempt is expected to attract large public interest in Abuja, with supporters, photographers, content creators, and social media followers already reacting online.

The challenge also reflects the growing popularity of Guinness World Record attempts among Nigerians in recent years.

Several Nigerians have pursued record-breaking achievements across cooking, sports, entertainment, endurance contests, and digital creativity, often generating massive attention on social media platforms.

Analysts say these attempts increasingly serve as platforms for youth expression, national pride, and international visibility.

Digital Culture Driving Interest in Selfie Records

Photography experts note that smartphone technology and social media have transformed selfie photography into a global cultural trend.

As digital engagement continues to shape online culture, selfie-related challenges and viral visual content have become increasingly competitive worldwide.

Supporters are now awaiting the official event in Abuja to see whether Saidu Abdulrahaman can successfully surpass the existing Guinness World Record and bring the title to Nigeria.
