The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano has been thrown into fresh turmoil following allegations by the state chairman, Hussaini Isa Mai Riga, that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is attempting to take control of the party.
Mai Riga made the claim during an interview with Premier on Monday, warning that the party must not be turned into a private political vehicle serving the interests of a few powerful individuals.
He alleged that ongoing moves within the party suggest a deliberate effort to dominate its structure and influence its direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
The accusation adds to growing tensions within the Kano chapter of the NDC, where competing political blocs are positioning for control as alignments shift in the state’s political landscape.
Political observers say the internal dispute could weaken the party if not addressed quickly, noting that disunity may hand an advantage to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in future contests.
Several analysts have urged party stakeholders to resolve their differences and strengthen internal cohesion, warning that failure to “put their house in order” could make victory easier for their opponents in 2027.
The development underscores broader uncertainties within opposition ranks, as key figures and factions continue to test new alliances and power structures in the run-up to the next general election.
