A senior political figure, Engr. Buba Galadima, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to defect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as part of efforts to build a stronger opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Galadima made the appeal while addressing political developments surrounding recent defections from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that unresolved internal issues forced some members to exit the party.
“We didn’t leave the ADC until there was a judgement setting a booby trap for everybody within the party. This is why we are using this opportunity to call on the remnants of our comrades in the ADC to come to the NDC, where we will have a level-playing ground,” he said.
He specifically urged Atiku to “jump ship” and align with the NDC, arguing that such a move would create a fair and competitive political platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Galadima maintained that the NDC offers equal opportunity for all stakeholders, unlike what he described as restrictive conditions in other parties.
The call comes amid ongoing political realignments and strategic positioning by opposition figures seeking to consolidate forces ahead of 2027.
Analysts say the success of any opposition coalition will depend largely on unity among key actors, warning that fragmentation could weaken efforts to unseat the APC government.
