The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State has named Dr. Jamilu Shaiyaku Gwamna as its consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The party took the decision on May 3, 2026, during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in the state. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presided over the meeting as the party leader in Gombe State.
Party leaders also approved consensus candidates for other positions, including the three senatorial districts, six House of Representatives seats, and 24 State House of Assembly constituencies. The party described the move as a strategy to strengthen unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting had wide participation from governorship aspirants, National Assembly aspirants, and State Assembly aspirants. Members of the State Working Committee also attended, along with party elders and other key stakeholders. Senior party officials present included the Deputy National Financial Secretary and North-East zonal representatives.
The party said Governor Yahaya led extensive consultations before the decision. He met with aspirants, party executives, and grassroots stakeholders. The consultations aimed to reduce internal disputes and improve unity within the party. Party leaders also said earlier meetings with elders and officials helped to strengthen internal stability and party structure.
The APC announced its consensus candidates for the Senate. DCP Mohammed Ahmadu Deba will contest for Gombe Central. Hon. Jerry Damara will contest for Gombe South. Governor Inuwa Yahaya will contest for Gombe North.
For the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo will contest Akko Federal Constituency. Hon. Inuwa Garba will contest Yamaltu/Deba. Hon. Ali Isa JC will contest Balanga/Billiri. Hon. Fatima Binta Bello will contest Kaltungo/Shongom. Hon. Saddam Bello will contest Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye. Hon. Jamilu Shabewa will contest Dukku/Nafada.
Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General of Press Affairs at Government House, Gombe, issued the statement. He said the consensus arrangement shows the party’s commitment to unity and electoral strength in the state.
