Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called for a stronger and smarter security system in Nigeria by using technology and artificial intelligence.

Speaking at the Kogi Security Summit in Abuja on Tuesday, Zulum said old security methods are no longer enough to fight modern crimes and terrorism. He explained that criminal groups now use advanced tactics, and Nigeria must respond with smarter solutions.

The governor urged security agencies to adopt tools like surveillance drones, biometric systems, and predictive analytics. According to him, these technologies can help detect threats early and stop attacks before they happen.

Zulum described the current security challenge as one that requires “modern technological warfare.” He said artificial intelligence and robotics should play a major role in tracking criminals, gathering intelligence, and improving national safety.

He also said security should not be left to government alone. Zulum encouraged citizens to support community policing and share useful information with security agencies to help protect their communities.

The governor stressed that poverty and unemployment remain major causes of insecurity. He noted that when young people lack jobs and basic opportunities, they become easy targets for criminal groups and violent recruiters.

He added that poor infrastructure, weak social services, and limited access to education also make the problem worse. For this reason, he said government must invest not only in military equipment like drones and Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles but also in agriculture, economic growth, and welfare programs.

Zulum explained that solving insecurity requires understanding both the social and economic problems behind it. He said issues like climate change, rising poverty, and illiteracy continue to increase instability across many communities.

He concluded by saying that protecting lives and property is the first duty of every government. According to him, no nation can achieve real development without peace and security.

The governor attended the summit with Hon. Engr. Bukar Talba, the lawmaker representing Marte, Monguno, and Nganzai Federal Constituency.
