Rivers Police Dismiss Five Inspectors Over Robbery, Kidnapping

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed five inspectors over alleged involvement in robbery, kidnapping and extortion activities in Rivers State.

Investigators uncovered an alleged criminal syndicate involving serving officers accused of targeting residents in Port Harcourt and nearby areas.

Reports say victims were intercepted during illegal stop-and-search operations before being taken to isolated locations.

Authorities said suspects allegedly forced victims to reveal bank details and transferred money from bank and cryptocurrency accounts.

Following internal disciplinary procedures, five inspectors attached to Rivers operations were dismissed from service.

Authorities also said additional officers linked to the case may face disciplinary measures and prosecution.

Expectedly, the development has generated reactions as many Nigerians continue discussing accountability within the police system.
