The United States Embassy in Abuja has suspended visa appointments due to ongoing security concerns in Nigeria’s capital.

In a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the embassy announced the decision and said it has paused all scheduled visa interviews until further notice.

The embassy advised affected applicants to check their email inboxes for updates on rescheduling.

The move comes amid heightened security alerts and growing concerns about safety in parts of the country. Although the embassy did not disclose details of the threat, it said the action aims to protect staff and applicants.

The decision follows recent steps by the U.S. government to review its operations in Nigeria. Authorities have also issued travel advisories warning citizens about risks in several states.

Residents and visa applicants have reacted with concern. Many say the suspension could disrupt travel plans, education opportunities, and business activities.

The embassy has not announced a date for the resumption of visa services.
