The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dr. Magayaki made the announcement shortly after Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State also joined the ruling party. Sources say the defections signal a growing momentum for the APC in the state ahead of upcoming elections.

In a statement, Dr. Magayaki said he took the decision after consulting with political allies and supporters across the state. He explained that joining the APC would allow him to work more effectively with the government to achieve developmental goals for Zamfara.

Political analysts believe the PDP will face significant challenges in the state following the departure of its top leader. The defections could weaken the party’s structure and influence in local politics.

Meanwhile, the APC welcomed Dr. Magayaki and pledged to strengthen its grassroots presence in Zamfara. Party officials described the move as a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Residents and party members have expressed mixed reactions. Some see the defections as a pragmatic step for stability and progress, while others view it as a blow to opposition politics in the state.

As the political landscape shifts, all eyes are on Zamfara to see how the PDP will regroup and how the APC will leverage its growing influence in the state.
