President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, signaling a strategic move to strengthen economic coordination and governance delivery.

In the latest development, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, have been removed from their positions.

According to an official memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Dr. Muttaqha Darma is now Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The announcement was confirmed in a statement released by Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the SGF.

The outgoing ministers have been directed to complete all handover processes to their successors or supervising officials, with all activities to be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining the decision, Akume said the changes are part of efforts to improve coordination and strengthen delivery across key sectors under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He stated that the move is aimed at enhancing cohesion and synergy in governance while ensuring more impactful economic outcomes for Nigerians.

The President’s action is backed by Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower him to appoint and restructure his cabinet.

The SGF also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours, noting that cabinet reinvigoration will remain a continuous process.

Taiwo Oyedele was earlier appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, while Wale Edun had served since August 16, 2023, when the cabinet was first constituted.
