The Federal Government has approved ₦5 billion to support traders affected by the Singer Market fire in Kano.
State governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC) also donated ₦3 billion through the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
The combined ₦8 billion intervention is to provide relief for hundreds of traders who lost goods and shops in the inferno.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the donation during a condolence visit to the market.

He said the intervention was directed by President Bola Tinubu to support affected families and aid recovery.
Shettima prayed for the prevention of future fire disasters in the popular commercial hub.
During the visit, the Vice President formally received Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the APC.
He said President Tinubu assured the governor that his place in the party was “second to none.”
Shettima described Kano as a cosmopolitan state with historic contributions to commerce, scholarship and national unity.
He said Governor Yusuf’s decision to join the APC strengthened the ruling party’s resolve to build a more inclusive Nigeria.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin said Kano would now benefit more from federal programmes.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas described Yusuf’s defection as strategic for the APC.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said Kano would reap major benefits from the move.
Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, called Yusuf an original APC member who had returned home.
Governor Yusuf said he joined the APC to better serve Kano people and strengthen ties with the Federal Government.
He said his former party, NNPP, lacked the stability required for the state’s development.
Former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje said Yusuf’s defection consolidated APC’s position in Kano.
