US border tsar Tom Homan has announced that the immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota will be concluded after receiving approval from President Donald Trump.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, Homan said he would remain in the state briefly to oversee the drawdown and ensure a smooth transition.

He noted that Minnesota has become “less of a sanctuary state,” citing increased cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration officers.

The operation, known as Operation Metro Surge, saw more than 2,000 immigration officers deployed to the state and sparked nationwide protests after two US citizens were killed during enforcement actions last month.

Homan described the operation as a “great success,” saying officials had significantly reduced the number of enforcement targets.

He added that several undocumented immigrants, including individuals convicted of rape and other sexual offences, were arrested during the operation.

Although the surge is ending, Homan confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will maintain a smaller presence in Minnesota to transition command back to the field office.
