The Independent National Electoral Commission has pledged to act on security intelligence ahead of the FCT Area Council Elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance during a meeting with the National Peace Committee in Abuja.
The elections are scheduled for February 21, 2026.
Amupitan said the Commission would review the risk assessment and share it with relevant security agencies.
He described the information provided by the committee as timely and valuable.
The chairman said Abuja Municipal Area Council would receive special scrutiny.
He added that Bwari and Kuje Area Councils would also receive heightened attention.
On vote buying, Amupitan said INEC had alerted the Nigeria Police, EFCC, and ICPC.
He said the agencies would work to curb vote buying and related electoral offences.
Amupitan described the Peace Accord as a binding commitment for political actors to ensure peaceful elections.
He noted that activities in 2026 form part of preparations for the 2027 General Election.
National Peace Committee representative, Rev. Fr. Atta Barkindo, pledged continued collaboration with INEC.

He conveyed goodwill from Committee Chairman Abdulsalami Abubakar and Convener Matthew Kukah.
Barkindo said the committee’s Election Security and Information Hub had identified key hotspots.
The analysis flagged AMAC, Gwagwalada, Bwari, and Kuje as areas requiring vigilance.
The committee cited vote buying concerns in AMAC and political tensions in Gwagwalada.
It also highlighted security challenges in Bwari and border vulnerabilities in Kwali.
INEC said it would take necessary steps to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
