NYSC Adamawa Holds Farewell for Three Deceased Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Adamawa State has bid a tearful farewell to three corps members who lost their lives in a tragic motor accident just days after completing their orientation course.

The deceased corps members, Jalilat Suleiman, Usman Shuaibu, and Abdullahi Dauda, died in a road crash that occurred on June 3, 2026, along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song Road in Adamawa State.

The young graduates had recently completed the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation exercise and were preparing to begin their service year. They were reportedly travelling to retrieve their belongings and settle into their respective places of primary assignment when the fatal accident occurred.

Family members, friends, fellow corps members, religious leaders, traditional rulers, representatives of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, and NYSC officials gathered at the Specialist Hospital, Yola, on Saturday for the burial ceremony.

Among those present were the District Head of Nasarawo Abba, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, the Sarkin Sudan Adamawa, and the Chief Imam of Nasarawo Abba Central Mosque, who joined mourners in offering prayers for the departed souls.

The atmosphere was marked by grief as relatives mourned the loss of loved ones whose futures had appeared bright with promise. Fellow corps members also paid tribute to colleagues they described as dedicated, hopeful, and eager to contribute to national development.

Speaking on behalf of the Adamawa State Coordinator, Mrs. Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, NYSC officials expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased. They also assured the bereaved families of the Scheme’s continued support during the difficult period.

A touching moment during the ceremony came when staff members of Nurul Yaqeen Academy, one of the employers of the fallen corps members, travelled from Mubi North to Yola to pay their last respects. They were accompanied by serving corps members who made the journey to honour their departed colleagues, reflecting the impact the deceased had made within a short time in their host communities.

As part of the final rites, condolence letters from NYSC management were presented to the families, assuring them that they were not alone in their grief.

Following prayers, the bodies were conveyed to the cemetery for interment amid emotional scenes.

The deaths of Jalilat Suleiman, Usman Shuaibu, and Abdullahi Dauda have left a painful void within the NYSC family and among those who knew them. Though their service year was cut short before it truly began, their memory and the impact they made on those around them will continue to endure.

The three corps members are remembered for lives filled with hope, service, and aspirations that ended too soon.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.
